ใน ช่วงระหว่างปิดภาคเรียนนี้ มีงานบรรพชาสามเณรเฉลิมพระเกียรติ ณ วัดชัยมงคล เพื่อถวายเป็นพระราชกุศลแด่องค์พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว เนื่องในวโรกาสทรงเจริญพระชนมพรรษา 82 พรรษา ประชาชนบริเวณนั้นได้ร่วมกันเป็นเจ้าภาพในการบรรพชาสามเณรจำนวนมากกว่า 100 รูป โดยจะใช้เวลาทั้งหมด 9 วัน ระหว่างวันที่ 17-25 ตุลาคม 2552 โดยมีนักเรียนโรงเรียนศรีวิทยาปากน้ำร่วมบรรพชาด้วย

During the school holidays in Thailand, it is common for Thai students to ordain as novice monks for a short time. In the olden days, before there were government schools, poor boys would ordain in order to get an education. However, these days, their parents want them to ordain for a short time during holidays in order to keep them out of trouble. They also have training in ethics and Buddhism which is good for them. At Wat Chai Mongkhol in Samut Prakan, over one hundred Thai boys recently ordained as novices to honour the 82nd Birthday of H.M. The King. They will be novices from 17th to 25th October 2009.

เช้า นี้ ณ โรงเจท่งเสียง ปากน้ำ มีพิธีเปิดโรงเจหลังจากมีการบูรณะปฏิสังขรณ์ โดยสมเด็จพระพุฒาจารย์ (เกี่ยว อุปเสโณ) ประธานคณะผู้ปฏิบัติหน้าที่สมเด็จพระสังฆราช เสด็จเป็นประธานในพิธีเปิดป้ายโรงเจท่งเสียง ในงานนี้นายสุรชัย ขันอาสา ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดสมุทรปราการได้เดินทางมาร่วมในพิธีร่วมกับคนไทยเชื้อสาย จีนชาวปากน้ำทุกหมู่เหล่าด้วย

โรง เจท่งเสียงปากน้ำนั้นมีประวัติยาวนานกว่า 80 ปี เปลี่ยนจากเรือนไม้มาเป็นอาคารคอนกรีตในปีพ.ศ.2518 หรือประมาณเกือบ 35 ปีมาแล้ว ทางคณะกรรมการสมัยที่ 22 และศิษยานุศิษย์จึงได้ร่วมมือร่วมใจกันบูรณะปฏิสังขรณ์โรงเจขึ้นใหม่

This morning, a dedication ceremony was held at Thong Siang Vegetarian House in Paknam. The buildings had recently been renovated and enlarged. The Chinese temple dates back more than 80 years but back then it was a wooden building. In 1975 a concrete building was built. Acting Supreme Patriarch of Thailand was invited for the dedication ceremony. He is of Thai-Chinese descent  and is effectively the leader of all Thai Buddhist monks. He is also the abbot of Wat Saket. Also present was Mr. Surachai Khanasa, the Governor of Samut Prakan.

เข้า สู่วันที่ 4 ของงานนมัสการพระสมุทรเจดีย์ หรือวันแรม 8 ค่ำ เดือน 11 สิ่งที่ปฏิบัติกันมาอย่างต่อเนื่องคือการแข่งเรือพาย โดยในปีนี้นอกจากการแข่งเรือแล้วยังมีกิจกรรมอื่นภายใต้โครงการ "สืบสานวัฒนธรรมประเพณี วิถีชุมชน ส่งเสริมคุณภาพชีวิต และการท่องเที่ยว" เช่น การแข่งขันกินหอยแครง การแข่งขันเย็บจาก สำหรับมุงหลังคาบ้าน รวมถึงการแข่งมวยทะเล โดยในงานครั้งนี้ ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัด นายสุรชัย ขันอาสา ให้เกียรติมาเป็นประธานในพิธีเปิดงาน และมอบถ้วยรางวัลแก่ผู้ชนะการแข่งขัน

The Temple Fair in Samut Prakan has now reached its fourth day. Today is the 8th day of the waning moon of the 11th lunar month. On this day every year, the local people from Phra Samut Chedi District come together to compete in various traditional games. The event was presided over by Mr. Surachai Khanasa, the Governor of Samut Prakan. The District Chief sent a flotilla of boats across the Chao Phraya River to pick up the Governor at the Provincial Hall and then escort him back to the waterfront at Phra Samut Chedi. As you can see from the first picture, the pagoda now has a brand new sacred red cloth which was wrapped around it on the first day of the Temple Fair.

Today saw the start of the 182nd Phra Samut Chedi Temple Fair in Samut Prakan. This takes place every year five days after the full moon in October. It goes on for twelve days and twelve nights and includes mandy sideshow games as well as a lot of really delicious food. The event started today with a parade of the sacred red cloth through the towns of Samut Prakan and Phra Pradaeng. The red cloth was then brought to Phra Samut Chedi to be wrapped around the pagoda. Last year the guest of honour was the then Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat. This year we had the Minister of Interior, Mr. Chavarat Charnvirakul. He is the leader of the Bhumjai Thai Party and was also the caretaker Prime Minister briefly last year.

เช้านี้ เวลา 7 นาฬิกา มีพิธีการเปิดงานนมัสการองค์พระสมุทรเจดีย์ ซึ่งจัดติดต่อกันมากว่า 182 ปี โดยมีการแห่ผ้าห่มองค์พระสมุทรเจดีย์ไปรอบบริเวณตลาดปากน้ำ โดยมีนักเรียนจากโรงเรียนต่างๆ ในจังหวัด และประชาชนมาร่วมขบวนแห่ในครั้งนี้ โดยแต่ละกลุ่มได้แต่งกายด้วยชุดต่างๆ อย่างสวยงาม หลังจากแห่รอบตลาดปากน้ำแล้ว มีการนำผ้าห่มฯ ลงเรือเพื่อทำการแห่ต่อที่อำเภอพระประแดง ท้ายสุดก็นำผ้าไปที่วัดพระสมุทรเจดีย์เพื่อทำการห่มองค์พระสมุทรเจดีย์

Temple Fair Parade งานแห่ผ้าห่มองค์พระสมุทรเจดีย์

The annual Temple Fair in Samut Prakan kicked off early this morning with the parade through town. The fair at Phra Samut Chedi has been going on now for 182 years which I believe makes it the longest running temple fair in Thailand. Certainly one of the oldest. In the olden days, people would come down from Bangkok by boat. Back then, this temple used to be in the middle of the river. These days it is now on the West Bank but the fair is still as popular. Leading the parade was the sacred red cloth which will later be wrapped around the pagoda in an important ceremony.
